For Students

STEM

We are very passionate about STEM here at Murhur N.S. We are involved were involved in a creative project with a funded art programme for schools called “Me and The Moon” with David Fortune earlier this year.  The project was called “Create And Animate” and our pupils from Third to Sixth Class took part creating their own stopmotion productions. These are showcasing now in the Kerry County Museum Tralee from the 14th – the 28th of February.

In the Infant room, the pupils start their introduction to STEM with Beebots and Scratch Junior. The Middle Rooms continue this with Lego Education Essential Spike and We Do. The Senior Rooms delve into 3D printing, Scratch and Stop Motion. This is an excellent STEM foundation to depart with from Murhur NS.

3D Printing

Murhur NS is a 3D Printing School. We are very fortunate to have our own printer thanks to our neighbours here in Moyvane, Mulvihill Motors.

In recent years,  the pupils in the Senior Class have won ‘Best Overall 3D Printing School’ at the Taiscéalaí 3D Printing Awards at IMR in Mullingar as well as second place in the ‘Best Overall Learning Journey’ category in the All-Ireland 3D Printing Sustainability Challenge. The puils had to either use the printer to fix something that was broken and destined for the bin or design and print something to add a second life to something that already exists. Problem solving in reality.
